october/spotlight

This October, Queer/Bar is recognizing LGBTQ+ History Month, Filipino American History Month, and Indigenous Peoples’ Day through our Community Spotlight.

These observances invite us to honor the histories, cultures, and overlapping identities that shape our community and to turn that recognition into support for the people doing the work today.

Our October Spotlight brings together three queer-focused organizations with different areas of impact: Pride Asia for cultural visibility and community connection, Queer the Land for housing, land, and self-determination, and Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center for health, resources, and community care.

Throughout October, there are three ways to give:

  • Donate directly to the featured organizations through their giving pages.

  • Add a $5 donation to your bill when you visit Queer/Bar.

  • Join us for Sunday brunch: Queer/Bar donates 10% of Sunday brunch sales throughout October to the October Spotlight organizations.

Together, we can honor our community’s history while supporting cultural representation, collective ownership, and access to care.

Thank you for showing up, giving what you can, and helping care for the many communities we call home.

Pride Asia

Focus: Cultural visibility and community connection.

Impact: Celebrates and empowers LGBTQ+ communities through an Asian and Pacific Islander lens. We’re highlighting that broader API mission during Filipino American History Month while recognizing API contributions to LGBTQ+ history.

Queer the Land

Focus: Housing, land, and self-determination.

Impact: Centers queer, trans, and Two-Spirit Black, Indigenous, and people of color in work toward collective ownership of land and labor and resistance to displacement. Its inclusion of Indigenous and Two-Spirit communities and focus on land connect our Spotlight to Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center

Focus: Health, resources, and community care.

Impact: Connects LGBTQ+ people with affirming services, wellness resources, and community. Its roots in local HIV/AIDS organizing and ongoing health, arts, and youth programs connect LGBTQ+ History Month with care for our community today.

This is just the beginning

As we step into this new era at Queer/Bar, we want to further our commitment to continually highlighting, uplifting, and celebrating the many different & beautiful slices of our LGBTQ+ community.
